Chippewa County Jail Mugshots Overview
The official Chippewa County Jail in-custody list displays booking photos on the public roster. The roster is linked from the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office page as the In Custody List. In the research capture, the LETG roster header read "Chippewa County Jail" with a dated custody timestamp, and each listed person had a Photo column at the start of the row. That makes the county roster the primary official place to view current Chippewa County jail mugshots.
The Chippewa County roster is not built like a mugshot archive. No separate recent-bookings gallery, daily booking-photo report, released-inmate gallery, or historic mugshot database was located in the official county materials. The photo appears as part of a current custody row. If the person has been released, transferred, sentenced to Minnesota Department of Corrections custody, or moved to another agency, the jail roster may no longer show the booking photo. The MNDOC locator covers adults committed to state corrections jurisdiction and still under DOC custody or supervision. The BOP and ICE tools cover federal and immigration custody. Those systems are fallback channels for custody status, not substitutes for the Chippewa County Jail photo column.
Chippewa County Photo Record Fields
A Chippewa County booking photo should be read with the roster row around it. The public LETG row gives enough identity and custody context to reduce name-confusion, but it does not publish every jail record field. The roster does not show full date of birth, home address, race, height, weight, hair color, eye color, scars, tattoos, housing unit, visitor list, phone records, medical data, or a release plan. Those omissions matter because a photo by itself can be misleading when names are similar or when charges change after court review.

Booking, intake, and classification happen before a public roster row is useful. Chippewa County Mugshot Law
Minnesota law treats booking photographs as public data in many cases. Minn. Stat. 13.82, subdivision 26, defines a booking photograph as a photograph or electronic image taken by law enforcement for identification in connection with an arrest. The same subdivision says that, except as otherwise provided, a booking photograph is public data. A law enforcement agency may temporarily withhold access if giving access would adversely affect an active investigation.
That rule does not make every detail near a Chippewa County mugshot public. Minn. Stat. 13.85 covers corrections and detention data created or maintained because of lawful confinement in jails, prisons, lockups, workhouses, work farms, and other detention settings. Some data remains private or nonpublic even when the roster, charge status, and booking-photo field are visible. The public record line is therefore practical: the current photo and row may be public, while medical screening, housing, phone, visitor, and security information stays off the roster.

Chippewa County Mugshot Retention
No official Chippewa County source in the research file states a fixed number of hours, days, or weeks that a mugshot stays online after release. The roster is a current in-custody list, and no released-inmate archive was located. For that reason, the safest reading is that public booking photos appear while a person is on the current Chippewa County Jail list. Once a row drops from the roster, a historical or prior photo should be requested through the sheriff records channel or the originating law enforcement agency rather than assumed to remain available online.
What is and isn't public: The public roster can show the photo, MNI, name, sex, age, booking number, intake date, charges, and bail or bond fields. It does not show full date of birth, address, race, height, weight, medical data, visitor lists, phone lists, housing assignment, or a release plan.
Some timing issues are normal. A new booking may not appear immediately because intake must occur first, and the roster timestamp is the only posted refresh indicator found in the research. A released person may disappear from the current list before a viewer can save a public row. A transferred or sentenced person may move to a different search path. For urgent confirmation, use the jail information line rather than relying on an old screenshot or a copied image.
Request Chippewa County Booking Photos
If a Chippewa County booking photo is not visible on the current roster, contact the Sheriff's Office records channel. The sheriff FAQ says sheriff's reports and accident reports can be requested in person at the Sheriff's Office, by mail, or by phone at 320-269-2121. The FAQ lists a $3 fee for each report, paid before the report is issued, and says insurance-company requests require signed authorization from the requester. The research did not locate a separate fee or turnaround time for a booking-photo-only request.
A records request for a mugshot should be narrow. Give the full name, approximate booking date, booking number if known, and a note that the request is for the booking photograph or public arrest data under Minnesota public-data law. Ask whether Minn. Stat. 13.82, subdivision 26 permits release and whether the agency is applying a temporary active-investigation withholding. The requester should also ask whether the record is held by the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office, Montevideo Police Department, Minnesota DOC, or another agency if the arrest involved a transfer.

Chippewa County Mugshot Removal
The research file did not locate a Chippewa County mugshot-removal form or a separate county policy for taking a booking photo down after dismissal, acquittal, or expungement. Because the roster is current-custody based, the most common official change is that the row leaves the in-custody list when the custody status changes. That is different from clearing the court record or changing copies held outside the official jail system. Official removal questions should start with the Sheriff's Office or the court record process.
When a case is sealed or expunged, the court record is the better starting point for what can be hidden from public view. A booking photo may still be subject to the law enforcement data rule unless an order, classification, or active-investigation issue changes public access. Do not assume that a dismissed charge automatically deletes every jail record.
State and Federal Photos
Chippewa County Jail is a county jail, not a state prison or federal detention center. A person sentenced to state prison leaves the county jail roster and is searched through the Minnesota Department of Corrections public locator. The MNDOC locator covers adults committed to the Commissioner of Corrections and still under DOC jurisdiction, including some people released from prison but still on supervision. Newly sentenced people may take several business days to appear in that system.
Federal and immigration searches are different. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator searches federal inmates from 1982 to the present, but it does not display federal booking mugshots in the public locator. ICE ODLS is a detainee locator, not a public mugshot gallery. If a Chippewa County arrest later connects to federal court, BOP, or immigration custody, the county roster photo should not be treated as a full federal booking record.
